The Role:
As Place Management Manager, you’ll lead on ensuring Cardiff’s public spaces are well-maintained, attractive, and accessible. Working closely with key stakeholders, local authorities, and businesses, you’ll oversee street cleaning, safety initiatives, public realm enhancements, and operational projects. You will be passionate about creating clean, safe, and welcoming urban spaces, combining strategic planning with on-the-ground action.
Responsibilities:
- 📊 Strategy & Budgetary Control; lead and manage the development and delivery of an annual plan that aligns with the organisation’s vision and delivers value to its members.
- 🧹 Operations & Maintenance; manage and coordinate city-centre cleaning and maintenance initiatives to improve Cardiff’s streetscape.
- 🛡️ Safety & Security; work with local authorities, police, and partners to enhance public safety, reduce anti-social behaviour, contribute to emergency planning, and participate in counter-terrorism plans. Lead on business crime initiatives, ensuring their relevance in addressing issues within the daytime and evening/night-time economies. Ensure the successful management of the city’s radio scheme, championing the scheme to new businesses and provide communication content to promote best practices and share key messages.
- 🤝 Stakeholder Engagement; build strong relationships with businesses, councils, and service providers to deliver impactful projects. Collaborate with partners to coordinate an organised response to the challenges facing the city and businesses in the nighttime economy. Arrange appropriate training for partners and member businesses to improve best practice within the city centre.
- 🏙️ Public Realm Enhancements; oversee improvements such as street furniture, lighting, and wayfinding to create a more welcoming environment. Management of the cleansing team and taxi marshal contract ensuring it is adhered to, reported on, and remains a good return on investment. Manage partners and contractors ensuring the delivery of the action plan runs on time and within budget.

Skills & Experience:
- 🛠️ Experience in facilities management, public realm operations, or urban regeneration.
- 📋Experience managing complex projects and reporting at a Board level.
- 🧮Experience within operations control, business planning and budget management.
- 🛡️Experience in delivering crime or safety focused projects.
- 💡 A creative thinker with demonstrable experience of bringing forward innovative solutions to challenges.
- 🤝Able to communicate professionally and confidently to a range of stakeholders.
- 🗣️Experience in engaging and influencing public and private stakeholders at all levels.
- 🧑🤝🧑A strong team player with experience of partnership working.
- 🏘️ Demonstrable understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing cities and Wales.
- 🕶️Understanding and experience of current government policy regarding community safety and the night-time economy.
