    Volunteering Officer - Ebbw Vale

    • Ebbw Vale, with some flexibility for hybrid working following training & probation
    • Fixed Term until March 2027, with genuine potential to extend   
    • Full Time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday
    • Salary £28,562 - £31,688 per Annum, depending upon experience

    The Role:

    Sitting at the intersection of the third sector, voluntary councils, health, social care and community organisations, the Volunteering Officer will help create integrated support pathways for people who would benefit from volunteering as a route to improved wellbeing and employability.

    Working across the Blaenau Gwent area, the Volunteering Officer supports individuals referred through wellbeing and employability services to access meaningful, well‑matched volunteering opportunities. You will help people build confidence, routine, skills and self‑esteem by developing personalised volunteering pathways that reflect their interests, strengths and goals.

    A key part of the role is developing and brokering high‑quality volunteering placements with local organisations, ensuring they can offer safe, positive and supportive experiences. You will identify and address barriers to participation, signpost or deliver relevant training, and maintain effective systems to track engagement, progress and outcomes.

    By working collaboratively with partners and promoting volunteering within the community, the Volunteering Officer plays a vital role in enabling individuals to move closer to improved wellbeing, social connection and future employment.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Support individuals referred through the programme, to access appropriate, meaningful and fulfilling volunteering opportunities, which contribute to their wellbeing and employability.
    • Work closely with Wellbeing Coaches and partners to develop personalised volunteering pathways which support individuals to build confidence, self-esteem, skills and readiness for employment.
    • Encourage individuals to build on existing skills and interests and to gain new experiences by giving their time to worthwhile and well-organised volunteering activities.
    • Recruit and support Businesses and Organisations who are prepared to make a commitment to provide a quality, safe and positive volunteering experience, with a focus on opportunities that support progression towards employability.
    • Identify and address barriers to volunteering, including confidence, transport, health-related challenges and skills gaps, working with partners to provide appropriate solutions and support.
    • Externally source and signpost relevant training for Volunteers and Providers, delivering relevant internal Training Courses where appropriate.
    • Conduct DBS Checks for Volunteers where required, to support and enable a safe recruitment process for Third Sector Organisations and projects.
    • Ensure effective systems are in place and maintained to ensure continued support at placement and evaluation of the volunteer journey, including progression towards employability outcomes;
    • Use internal systems to record engagement, monitor progress and capture outcomes for individuals supported through the programme.
    • Maintain appropriate and accurate electronic records for monitoring and evaluation purposes and produce reports for funders, including outputs, outcomes, case studies and KPIs linked to progress, by set deadlines.
    • Publicise and promote volunteering, primarily through marketing activities, events and presentations, highlighting volunteering as a pathway to improved wellbeing and employment.
    • Attend relevant partnership meetings to represent the voice of the Third Sector and promote volunteering within health and employability pathways;
    • Provide and update volunteering information and opportunities through a range of digital platforms.
    • Ensure the Volunteer Centre meets the Volunteering Service Specification Standards as defined.
    • Participate in training and development activities to support continuous professional development.
    • Actively contribute to the wider Volunteering offer, sharing information and best practice with others and participate in team meetings;
    • Carry out any further duties/projects as agreed with the Strategic Manager, recognising that this is a dynamic working environment where a flexible and innovative approach will be essential for successful delivery of the post.

     

    Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Experience of working with volunteers, individuals or within the Third Sector.
    • Knowledge and general understanding of the Third Sector, communities and volunteering in Wales.
    • Understanding of the role of volunteering in improving wellbeing and supporting employability.
    • Experience of delivering effective Presentations or Training Courses.
    • Awareness of safeguarding procedures and working within a policy framework.
    • Experience of working flexibly in a team to deliver a service.
    • Experience of partnership and collaborative working.
    • Experience of monitoring and evaluation using electronic systems.
    • Well organised and able to prioritise workload and achieve deadlines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to motivate and support individuals to build confidence and progress towards goals.
    • Well-developed ICT skills and competent in the use of digital office systems and social media platforms.
    • Flexible approach and a team player.

    Desirable:

    • Experience of supporting individuals towards employment, training or personal development.
    • Experience of producing reports for funders or stakeholders.
    • Possess a full and current driving licence and have use of own vehicle.
    • Ability to communicate in Welsh.
